Some elements of the insurance cover automatically apply to your partner providing you are living at the same address, please view the Scheme booklet by clicking here or accessing via the download menu on the right side of this page.
Members of the Group Insurance Scheme can also apply for life and critical illness cover for a partner, proving you are living together and meet the eligibility criteria.
The subscription for partner cover is taken from the member, but it is the Partner who is insured. The Partner therefore makes the decision as to who should benefit from any claim, and it is the Partner who is required to complete the medical questionnaire on application.

Eligibility
Members of the scheme may apply for their partners to join the Cohabiting Partner Group Insurance Scheme. Partners must be:
Partners of Officers with less than 2 years to serve, prior to retirement, are not eligible to apply for membership to the Partner Scheme.
Cover ceases when your partner reaches the age of 70 for serving officers and serving staff.
For serving Police Officers and staff the Partner Cover will automatically move to the Retired Scheme when the member moves to the retired scheme, unless you elect not to continue with cover, and cover is then applicable until your 80th birthday, or your partners 80th birthday (whichever is sooner). Unfortunately we are unable to accept new applications from Retired Officers.
Membership of the Partner Scheme is not transferable, only the original named partner is covered by the scheme.
Cessation of Cover
Any Member may withdraw from the Scheme at any time without penalty.
Membership of the scheme will cease when the individual attains the age of 70 for serving officers, serving staff and their partners, irrespective of whether they continue to be employed within their role and 80 for retired members.
Membership of the scheme and all benefits will cease upon the Member leaving the Force for any reason.
Membership of the scheme and all benefits will cease if the Member’s payments stop for any reason.
Membership of the scheme and all benefits will cease if the Trustees deem that an individual Member has brought the integrity of the Scheme or the Federation into disrepute.
Partner Membership of the scheme and all benefits will cease upon the death of the Member, or the Members withdrawal from the scheme. (Although the partner may be eligible to join the Widow/Widower Scheme, please see this page for more details)
When a Member or Partner reaches the upper age limit for the scheme, it is the responsibility of the Member to inform the Trustees, and ensure that the subscriptions are ceased. There will be no cover applicable after the upper age limit and any claims will not be paid. There will be a maximum of 6 months’ worth of subscriptions refunded to those Members who continue to make subscription payments after the upper age limit.
If a relationship should end it is the responsibility of the Member to inform the insurer, via the Trustees, to cancel the subscription. If the subscription continues to be paid this may affect the cover for the partner. Depending on the relevant circumstances cover may continue. There will be no refund of subscriptions if a member fails to cancel their Partner cover after a relationship comes to an end.
Members of the Scheme are required to inform the insurers, via the Trustees, of any change in circumstances which could affect this policy. Failure to do so could result in the invalidation of your policy and claims being rejected.
